PEERS FOR CAREERS

Starr Career Development Center
Peers for Careers 2008
Peers for Careers are highly trained undergraduate student leaders who serve as peer educators on topics such as career exploration, resume writing, cover letters, thank you notes, interviewing and job searching. It is a two-tiered leadership program that prepares students for progressively more advanced leadership roles within the Starr
Career Development Center (SCDC) and in their extracurricular and professional lives.
Role of a Tier One Peer
Tier One Training prepares students to provide one-on-one resume reviews, cover letter and thank you letter critiques, advisement on general career exploration, and campus outreach. Peers assist the staff of the Starr Career Development Center (SCDC) with administrative tasks as well as presentations, job fairs, and other career programs. In addition to receiving comprehensive and personalized training, Peers also receive weekly supervision and mentorship from members of the SCDC Staff. Peers who meet performance standards of Tier One, may then go on to receive additional training as a Tier 2 Peer, to learn Mock Interviewing and workshop facilitation.
Role of a Tier Two Peer
Tier Two Training prepares Peers to provide one-on-one videotaped mock interviews, to facilitate workshops on behalf of the Starr Career Development Center, and to take on co-trainer responsibilities for future trainings. In addition to providing resume, cover letter, and thank you note reviews, they also focus on facilitating mock interview, workshops, and other special programs. Tier Two Peers also receive weekly supervision and mentorship from members of the SCDC Staff.
