Checking Baruch WebMail with Netscape Mail, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc. (POP clients)
You may want to use your own e-mail client such as Yahoo! Mail, Netscape, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc. to retrieve your Baruch college WebMail. When you check your e-mail by this method, it will be removed from the WebMail server.
There are three main configuration settings that must be entered in any POP/IMAP client.
- For Username (sometimes
referred to as Login name or Account name)
enter your Baruch Username (for example 'bb123456')
- For
Incoming (POP3 or IMAP4) Mail Server enter webmail.baruch.cuny.edu
- For Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server: see Sending Email below.
You will set your Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server according to your location:
From Baruch's Wireless Campus Network:
Currently, due to elevated security concerns, Outgoing
(SMTP) Mail service is prohibited on the Wireless Campus Network
. For the interim, send e-mail using the web interface
at http://webmail.baruch.cuny.edu
to send e-mail.
From Off Campus:
The SMTP server must be provided by
your ISP* (Internet Service Provider, i.e. Earthlink, AT&T,
NetZero, etc.). The College cannot provide SMTP service to
off-campus users for security reasons. In order to send mail
from your e-mail client you must configure your ISP's mail
account to be the default mail account. Please contact your
ISP if you are having trouble sending e-mail.
From On Campus:
Use "smtp25.baruch.cuny.edu"
PLEASE NOTE:
All POP/IMAP
clients have an option to 'Leave Mail on Server'. We strongly
recommend that you do NOT leave your mail on the server. Mail
left on the server will count against your WebMail
storage quota.
*AOL users:
America Online (AOL) does not provide traditional SMTP/Outgoing
mail service. You may POP your WebMail only using the
AOL Communicator software. Go to keyword: communicator
or contact AOL at (800) 827-6364 for instructions.
