The Bernard Baruch Dinner is an annual benefit dinner held in support of Baruch College. Tables range from $10,000 to $50,000. The proceeds from this event help students by providing grants and scholarships, subsidizing professorships, improving facilities, upgrading technology and expanding services.
The 2008 Bernard Baruch Dinner
The 19th annual Bernard Baruch Dinner was held on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 at Cipriani 42nd Street. The event honored legendary Baruch College graduate and entrepreneur Larry Field ('52, DCSc Hon. '04), founder and chairman of the real estate development firm NSB Associates, Inc, with the College's Distinguished Alumnus Award.

President Kathleen Waldron presented Mr. Field with this year's Distinguished Alumnus award in recognition of his tireless dedication to his alma mater. His many gifts to the College include the creation of a research and consultation center for aspiring entrepreneurs and the renovation of the College's original campus building at 17 Lexington Avenue.
About Larry Field
Larry Field has been involved in the acquisition and development of more than $1 billion of real estate in Southern California. (The company’s name derives from Larry’s catch phrase, “Not So Bad,” which is his unwavering response whenever friends ask how he and his firm are doing.) After half a century as an entrepreneur, Larry now devotes increasing time and attention to philanthropy, education and civic affairs.
“Like many young people in our country today, I was the son of poor immigrants who struggled to give me an education,” Larry says. “I am an example of what you can achieve in America regardless of your origins. I want to help the next generation of entrepreneurs understand that they too are limited only by their ambition and hard work.”
A decade ago he established the Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship at Baruch College and later established two chairs in entrepreneurship. The Center serves more than 1,500 students, and has helped over 10,000 small businesses secure more than $60 million in financing and create or preserve nearly 4,000 jobs.
Mr. Field, his wife Eris and their family made the lead gift for the renovation of Baruch’s historic 17 Lexington Avenue building, which will be renamed the Lawrence and Eris Field Building.
Larry serves on the Board of Directors of The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, and is a major supporter of the Gilder Lehrman Saturday Academy, which helps inner-city youngsters in Los Angeles prepare for college or a career.
His other involvements include the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he is a member of the Executive Committee and donated a major gift for research into diabetes and memory disorders; The Los Angeles Music Center; The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association; the Jewish Federation Council; Ben-Gurion University; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and many others.
Larry holds a Bachelor’s (B.B.A.) from Baruch College and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from New York Law School. He received a Doctorate in Commercial Science, honoris causa, from Baruch in 2004. Larry and Eris have two daughters, Lisa Field and Robyn Field O’Carroll, a son-in-law Anthony O’Carroll, and two granddaughters, Ibby and Kate.
